There are a lot of ways that a driver can be ticketed while on the road. Much debate in Pennsylvania has centered on legislation addressing distracted drivers, specifically drivers who use their phones while behind the wheel.

But residents throughout the state should be aware of another campaign that has begun that could lead to more traffic violations for drivers. As the holiday season approaches, Pennsylvania State Police are focusing their efforts on keeping the roads safe for drivers.

You may have heard of this campaign before: "Click It or Ticket". And once again for the next 10 days, PSP will be participating in this national campaign. This means that more patrols will be out on the roads, conducting safety checkpoints and ticketing drivers who are found in violation of traffic laws.

Specifically, across the state troopers will also be performing free child safety seat checks. Parent can have an officer help them install and use a child safety seat. Drivers with young children are encouraged to learn more about installing these types of seats properly. This can also help prevent future tickets -- drivers are in violation of seat belt laws if children are not properly restrained in their seats.

While a ticket for improper seat restraint may not seem like a big deal, it can actually impact a driver in several ways. First, pleading guilty to a traffic ticket can lead to a license suspension. Life only becomes more difficult after losing your driving privileges. You have to rely on family, friends or public transportation to get around. Drivers can also be penalized by having points added to their driver's license.

It is often in the best interests of the driver to take steps to minimize the consequences of getting a traffic ticket.
