Being charged with multiple DUIs is a serious matter that can severely impact your life. No matter how long ago your last DUI occurred, your conviction will still be treated as a repeat or felony DUI. This can lead to numerous personal and legal complications, as seen in the following case of a Pennsylvania man who has been charged with multiple DUIs.
Recently, a Pittsburgh man pleaded guilty to his 11th DUI charge. According to police reports, the 58-year-old was charged with his latest DUI during a February snowstorm. The man was reportedly driving drunk when he crashed into a parked car early on a Monday morning.
Neighbors heard the crash and saw the man fall down multiple times outside his vehicle. Police reported that his blood alcohol content was .25 percent when the crash occurred.
During his court hearing, the judge referred to the man as a "highway terrorist." It was also noted in court that the man's driver's license had been suspended for over 40 years, and he will not be eligible to regain it until he is 93 years old in 2043.
The man's sentencing hearing has been scheduled for May 9. Local reports say he will likely face 11 to 22 years in prison.
As illustrated in this case, being convicted of multiple DUIs can have serious repercussions. Penalties can include expensive fines, a jail sentence, driver's license suspension, mandatory alcohol safety training and an ignition interlock device. Facing all of this can be very overwhelming, so finding qualified legal help may be beneficial.
